Abithica

Abithica
Author:Susan Goldsmith
Pages: 288
publication date: June 15 2011

Summary:
What if you knew you were about to be torn from your body and replaced by an imposter in a seamless switch forever separating you and the one you love? Would you do whatever it took to stay? Even if YOU happened to be the imposter?

Abithica must borrow all that she is from others: names, lives, even bodies. When she switches into the troubled life of Sydney Turner, she breaks the rule that has sustained her, the one thing in her control—never get attached. Lane Riley has no idea he’s fallen for Abithica, wearing Sydney Turner’s body and that a future with her is impossible. Desperate to stay with him, Abithica uncovers the mystery of what she is, only to learn she’s a pawn in a battle over souls, and that she’s probably one of the “bad guys.” What will happen if she refuses to leave Sydney’s body?

Review:
Abithica was such a good book, even though it took me forever to read (only because I had so many to read) it was such a great story, I loved the plot.

When I first started reading I was so very confused, I had no idea what was going on, then I got into the book.

We don’t know exactly what Abithica is till the very end of the book but throughout the book we learn that she changes bodies, she doesn’t know who she is all she just knows is that she switches bodies randomly and for no reason at all.

I can tell the author has a sense of humor; she introduced the Sydney character with her head in her fish platter while she was at a restaurant with her mom.

While Abithica is in Sydney’s body she tries to figure out what she has to do. Unfortunately she didn’t plan on falling in love. My favorite character in Abithica has to be Lane, he sounded very handsome and he had to care for his sister, which he would do anything for. Not only is he a strong compassionate person, he is head over heels in love with “Abithica”.

I found the pattern in the book that when she inhabited the two characters in the book both had that tattoo from the secret “paranormal gang” that fed on souls, that switched to that POV every once awhile in the book. I don’t know if she ever switched to bodies with that tattoo before, but I felt like she was supposed to help the people in that gang, trying to get there life straight.

I did wonder why only little kids could sense that she was an angel and none of the adults. I am thinking it’s because there younger and they still believe in that kind of stuff. But I thought it was cute how all the little kids would try to follow her around, and they would ask her about heaven or ask if she could relay a message to one of their family members in heaven. And then all the parents and grownups would think there kids were using their wild imagination and they would look at Abithica like she was a crazy nut.

Just a few things that I didn’t like about the main character, the fact that she refused to believe that she was an angel, the signs were clearly there. She really put herself down and thought she was a nobody. I really don’t like when people take pity on themselves, and I also don’t like a perfect character, so I guess it’s one or the other right?

I feel like there wasn’t a lot of information about the gang that Sydney and Sarah were involved in. I’m thankful it did switch POV every once and awhile but I would have liked to read about some more in depth details about it.

I really hope there’s more than just one book. I would be very disappointed if there wasn’t.

What Happened to Goodbye

What Happened to Goodbye
Author: Sarah Dessen
Pages:402
publication date:May 10 2011

Summary:
In the past two years, Mclean Sweet has moved four times. At each stop, she assumes a new persona, but it never quite works. Whether she's an effervescent cheerleader or an intense drama queen, nothing can permanently dispel the turmoil and rage at her mother since her parents' divorce. Sarah Dessen's novel about a teenager and her restaurant manager father captures the vulnerability that young people often experience after the dissolution of their family. A compelling story; strong characterization; and with a touch of romance.

Review:
Sarah Dessen does it again, she writes a flawless book that has everyone wanting more. The Goddess of YA has created yet another emotional, fun loving book.

Mclean is dealing with a whole lot in her life. Her mom and dad got divorced; she lives with her dad because she feels like her mom betrayed her and her dad’s job has them moving 4 times in just 2 years. In every place she moves to she makes herself a new identity. Every school she has a different name and different clique in school.

Her mom left her dad for a famous basketball’s team coach, and then got pregnant with twins. In Mclean’s eyes her mom betrayed her and she doesn’t want anything to do with her.

This book revolves around Mclean’s personal life and how everything affected her emotionally and physically. While her dad is working at helping the newest restaurant she helps out and befriends a bunch of people from school and the restaurant. She just broke one of her personal rules. Never get to close to someone because it’s too hard to say goodbye.
But then she meets Dave, well they met on some uncomfortable situations the first 2 times but it all worked out. I really did like Dave’s character, he wasn’t perfect, and he didn’t make himself out to be perfect either. Everyone has their faults and Dave and Mclean know a lot about that. Both come from not so perfect families, which let me tell you Dave’s parents would suffocate me, I wouldn’t be able to live with them.

The character that surprised me the most was Deb, she was an outsider at school, nobody liked her but it took one person to befriend her and invite her to sit down and the whole group grew on each other. Deb’s character was great and surprising and I loved every minute of her organization/boss skills.

I love how Sarah creates a world that isn’t exactly perfect and people can relate to. All the characters names are creative and different. That’s why I love Sara’s writing; it’s so fresh and perfect all at the same time.

“What Happened to Goodbye wasn’t my favorite book of hers but it’s still great. Make sure to read all 10 of her books if you haven’t already!

Interview with Hannah from Here Be Dragons!

I am so glad I got to be able to interview with the lovely and humorous Hannah! she is so nice, you guys better check out her blog ;)

check out her blog here

1- Do you have a favorite book/author?

I really love the Harry Potter series. I feel like J.K. Rowling created such amazing characters- they felt so real. I feel like Hermoine and I could be best friends! I also think her writing is the best I've ever read. If the books weren't so controversial they'd be instant classics.

2- If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you like to go and why?

I would love to see Europe. Historical fiction is what started my passion for reading. I picked up something about Anne Boleyn and read every historical novel about the Tudors I could get my hands on! One day I will make it to the UK.

3- I see that you like to write, how much time do you devote to writing each week?

I probably spend a few hours a week writing; I should spend more time and push myself, but whenever I'm faced with the options of reading a book or writing for my blog, reading wins every time!

4- When did you start blogging? and why did you decide to start?

I started blogging about a year ago, but I haven't done it consistently. You know when you meet someone and they get as excited as you do about books and the conversation just keeps going until the librarian at your school library tells you to stop yelling about Jane Austen (or was that just me)? Well, I started my blog for that reason. I love to read and talk so blogging seemed perfect!

5- If you could meet any author in the world, who would it be and why?

I'd love to meet J.K. Rowling, just so I could bow at her feet or something...

6- What's your favorite genre of books?

Historical fiction is my first love, but lately I've started reading a lot of YA books. Hunger Games anyone?

7- YA or Adult?

YA hands down. Who wants to read about old people?

8- Have you ever done BEA or Armchair BEA before?

This is my first year to do ArmchairBEA and next year I hope to make it to New York for BEA *crosses fingers* (I got that from you!)

9- What do you like most about writing?

I like that I can be anything- I can be silly or serious. It's a great way to process thoughts and connect with people

10- do you have any published books?

No, I think I'm the only book blogger that doesn't aspire to be a published author. I just like to read what all the authors write!

Thanks to armchair bea for hosting this great event, and for Hannah who needed an interview partner :)

Interview and giveaway with P.H.C. Marchesi

Author: P.H.C. Marchesi

author of:
Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes

Bio:
I have a Ph.D. degree in English literature and teach British literature to undergraduates. I'm currently working on book two of "Shelby and Shauna Kitt." I love YA fiction (fantasy/sci-fi), especially when it has interesting characters and ideas. As a child, I lived in many different countries, and experienced many different cultures. I studied at an International School and had friends from all over the world. In many ways, these experiences shaped my writing and the fantasy world I created in "Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes."

Interview:
1- How did you come up with the idea to write Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes?

I think that parts of the story were always there, though unconnected. I’ve probably been daydreaming about the world of Miriax my whole life, and this is how I eventually got the idea to write about another dimension. Imagination is, after all, a parallel universe: a place where you can have the most incredible adventures and become who you truly want to be. It’s a place where you can confront your fears and shortcomings, and learn what it takes to become a hero. My imagination allowed me to work through the excitement, promise, and sometimes agony of growing up. In Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes, Miriax is the place that allows Shelby and Shauna Kitt to do the same. This is why Miriax is beautiful, dangerous, exciting, and puzzling all at the same time.

2- What made you decide to write a book in the sci-fi genre?

I’ve always been a sci-fi fan. I grew up watching the likes of Star Trek. I vividly remember going to movies to watch Return of the Jedi and ET. To me, there was always something very exciting about space travel, other planets, and aliens. In hindsight, I grew up in an age that saw space exploration as a literal and metaphorical expression of human potential. Space travel was a result – as well as a manifestation of – the human longing for adventure, courage, and excitement. So it made perfect sense to me to write about a different planet, even though the novel is not strictly a sci-fi novel because of all the fantasy elements.

3- How did you come up with all the creative names for you characters in your book?

Ah. Well, I have to confess that coming up with names was always a favorite pastime of mine. I went to an international school (formerly a British school), so I grew up devouring the likes of Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. Dickens, in particular, had such original names that reading him made me realize character names were an important part of storytelling. This is not to say that I wanted to be as metaphorical as Dickens, though once or twice I let slip a quasi-metaphorical name. My aim is to have names that sound so perfect for characters that you couldn't imagine any other name for them. The most exciting names for me to come up with, of course, were those associated with Miriax. I had a great deal of fun with those, and incorporated my knowledge of different languages (Portuguese, German, Italian) in my choices. I'm also in the habit of paying attention to names in signs, streets, stores, etc. Some of these become inspirations for fictional names.

4- Is there going to be a second book in the series?

Absolutely. Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes is just the beginning of Shelby and Shauna's adventures on Miriax. I’m already working on the second book, which starts more or less where book one ended.

5- How long did it take you to write it?

I had a complete draft after a year, and then had to put the project on hold because I was nearing the completion of my graduate degree. After I graduated, I began to work on the book again, and it went through several more drafts before I felt I was done with revisions and the novel was ready.

6- If you could be any character from your book, who would it be? And why?

Hmm…that’s a hard question, because I feel that I’ve put some of myself into several of the characters. If I had to choose, I suppose I’d pick Shauna and Shelby Kitt (yes – it’s impossible to pick one over the other for me, even though they are so different), because they are the heroes of the novel. Together, they go on the type of adventure I longed for as a kid! They get to see places one only dreams of, and learn some powerful lessons about themselves and the nature of teamwork, friendship, and courage.

7- Where's your favorite place to write?

I like to write sitting on the sofa, watching the trees sway back and forth outside. I especially love the late afternoon light on the leaves. Nature inspires me, and so I always write best when I can see it.

8- What’s your favorite book to read? And why?

I don’t know if I have one book I can single out as a favorite. Growing up, my favorite book was Michael Ende’s Neverending Story. I also loved the stories of Monteiro Lobato (a Brazilian author). Other favorites were The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Harry Potter series, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

9- What's your favorite genre of book to read?

Young adult fantasy.

10 - Is there anything that you would like to say to future indie writers?

You have to write because you love it, because you can’t stand not sharing with others the things you imagine. If you do that, writing a novel can be the most satisfying thing in the world, regardless of whether your book sells ten copies or ten thousand!

Shebly and Shauna kitt and the Dimensional Holes

Shelby and Shauna Kitt and the Dimensional Holes
Author: P.H.C. Marchesi
Pages-312
publication date: March 18 2011

Summary:
Shelby Kitt never gets lost. Shauna, his sister, never gets sick. As far as most people are concerned, the inseparable Kitt twins are odd 13-year-olds. No one, however - not even Shelby and Shauna - can guess how extraordinary they are until the vice consul of Miriax, a planet from another dimension, asks them to take part in a dangerous mission. From that moment on, Shelby and Shauna Kitt discover that the universe is full of klodians, cities in jungles, giant bats, and tea with mushrooms. Most of all, they discover that it will take more than special powers for them to face - and survive - the evil that threatens the galaxy.

Review:
Not only did I love this book, I couldn’t put this book down.
P.H.C. Marchesi has created a whole other universe, a place where you can get lost in forever. It took me a little while to read, but I was glad I could savor the moment in Miriax.

I am so jealous of Shelby and Shauna, they have cool powers, they go to go to other dimensions and they get to meet totally new people. I only wish something like this only existed. Although if I were them I would probably be scared out of my mind, I wouldn’t be able to be as brave as them.

It’s up to Shelby and Shauna to save the world from the evil on planet Klodius, which feeds on the negativity of people on earth, while Miriax is the opposite, it feeds on the positive of people, This book is the true fight between dark and light.

While I was reading this and soaking this all in I was trying to figure out all the mysteries that were in the book, what is Dale’s motives? What happened to Lendox’s long lost brother? Who is the ancient evil? It all swirled around my head while I was reading this story.

My favorite character was Dale, he was mysterious, and secretive, I didn’t know if he was good or evil, I didn’t know what his motives were, He seemed evil in some parts and then the next scene his emotions were more toward the good side and it kept switching back and forth. I didn’t know what to believe, I also wanted to know why he seemed so obsessed with Shauna.

All those questions were answered for me sometime or other in the story and I was happy to have figured it out. I can’t say I was happy to finish it, I wished there was almost more to the story than that. I wish I could have stayed in Miriax just a bit longer, but sadly it came to an end.

Although the main characters in the book are only 13 years old this book is a YA/Sci-fi novel, enjoyed by teens and adults all over. I do hope Marchesi write a sequel to this, it would be perfect!

Through Her Eyes

Through Her Eyes
Author:Jennifer Archer
Pages:374
Publication date: April 5 2011

Summary:
Every ghost has a story to tell.

The last place Tansy Piper wants to be is stuck in Cedar Canyon, Texas, in the middle of nowhere, with a bunch of small-town kids. But when her mother decides to move to the desolate West Texas town, Tansy has no choice but to go along. Once there, Tansy is immediately drawn to the turret of their rickety old house, a place she soon learns has a disturbing history. But it's the strange artifacts she finds in the cellar—a pocket watch, a journal of poetry, and a tiny crystal—that have the most chilling impact on her.

Tansy soon finds that through the lens of her camera, she can become part of a surreal black-and-white world where her life is intertwined with that of mysterious, troubled Henry, who lived in the same house and died decades earlier. It seems their lives are linked by fate and the artifacts she found, but as Tansy begins spending more and more time in the past, her present world starts to fade away. Tansy must untangle herself from Henry's dangerous reality—before she loses touch with her own life forever.

Review:

Through her eyes is a haunting book that leaves you questioning what’s going to happen next.
Tansy and her mom has moved so many times she just gives up on the whole friend thing. She doesn’t want to become attached to someone and then have to leave whenever her mom finishes her book and then moves somewhere else for her new book to be written.
Tansy’s mom writes horror stories, each book she writes she has to move to a new location, somewhere where her book will be set. That’s how Tansy got stuck moving to the middle of nowhere in Texas, to a house that has said to be haunted by the boy who killed himself there.
Tansy then explores the grounds, she finds a cellar with a box hidden underneath the steps; inside it has a piece of glass, a stopwatch and a journal with poems inside.
Strange things have been happening around the house, She finds out the name of the boy, Henry who committed suicide, when she looks through the viewfinder of her camera she sees a black and white world, she sees what it was like back when her grandfather was a teenager, she finds out that Henry and her grandfather used to be good friends and then stranger things start happening.
She tries to fit the puzzle pieces of the mystery together but nothing makes sense. She befriends the school outcast and together they become best friends, then Tansy starts to like Tate, the cute boy at school who seems to change moods towards her every day. Soon they turn to trust in each other and they Tansy tells him everything. Tansy thinks she’s going crazy and then finally all the pieces fit together.
Between moving all the time, her grandfather not talking anymore, not getting enough sleep, and trying to solve the mystery is really stressful on Tansy.
Through her eyes was an ok book. I thought the plot was pretty good, but for some reason I couldn’t stay focused on the story line. Yes I got all the way through it, I really wanted to know what happens. I liked how Tansy wasn’t perfect and neither were any of the characters in the book. I liked how strong and brave the main character was.
I was hoping for a little bit more romance but I was glad I gave this book a try. I think this is a stand- alone book, but I would have liked the story to go on, just to see what happens.

The frenzy

The Frenzy
Author: Francesca Lia Block
Pages:258
publication date: September 28 2010

Summary:
Love is a werewolf, influenced by the moon and terror, and always about to change.
Liv has a secret.

Something happened to her when she was thirteen. Something that changed everything. Liv knows she doesn’t belong anymore—not in her own skin, not in her family . . . not anywhere. The only time she truly feels like herself is when she’s with her boyfriend, Corey, and in the woods that surround her town.

But in the woods, a mysterious woman watches Liv. In the woods, a pack of wild boys lurks. In the woods, Liv learns about the curse that will haunt her forever. The curse that caused the frenzy four years ago. And that may cause it again, all too soon.

While Corey and Liv’s love binds them together, Liv’s dark secret threatens to tear them apart as she struggles to understand who—or what—she really is. And by the light of the full moon, the most dangerous secrets bare their claws. . . .

Review:
While I wasn’t disappointed in this book it’s not one of my favorites.

Werewolf books are my favorite genre book, if I had to pick anything to read it would be a werewolf story, I have read a bunch of werewolf stories and they all involve romance or “imprinting” between two wolves in a story, more or less a love triangle.

I had high hopes for this book, unfortunately it wasn’t anything like I was expecting. This book was about werewolves but it really wasn’t the book (If that makes sense).

Liv has felt different ever since her 13th birthday, when she saw the dead wolf in the back of her mother’s truck.  Ever since then she has felt different whenever she gets angry, and boy let me tell you liv gets angry a lot,  especially at her mom.

So Apparently Liv is a werewolf and she didn’t really know it until she goes into the woods and sees a mysterious gray wolf, then there’s Joe Ranger, who she was told to stay away from, she didn’t know why until she learned the real reason behind it. Then there’s the mystery of the killings that have been happening in the woods, and then there’s Corey, Liv’s secret boyfriend, well only a secret from her parents who wouldn’t approve of her dating a colored boy.

So she finds a hidden cottage in the woods one day and decides to go in, and in there is the girl, who was the gray wolf that she spotted in the woods a few times, they told her true nature of being a werewolf, and that she had to control her anger, or else she may be dangerous. And then they tell her she has to kill her mom.
Who isn’t too nice but that’s beside the point. To kill your own mother, that’s horrible.

This isn’t your normal werewolf story; there’s really wasn’t that much to it. But I did enjoy it a tad bit. It was fast paced and a good storyline.

We'll Always Have Summer

We'll Always Have Summer
Author: Jenny Han
pages: 288
publication date: April 26 2011

Summary:
It's been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college-- only, their relationship hasn't exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Does she really have a future with Jeremiah? Has she ever gotten over Conrad? It's time for Belly to decide, once and for all, who has her heart forever.

Review:
*Sigh* the last book in the trilogy, I can’t believe it’s over! This trilogy had me crying, laughing, and actually feeling for the characters in the book. If someone were to ask me what my favorite series is I’d say this one for sure. I absolutely fell in love with all the characters, not only have I devoured each one of these books in one sitting, I have lost sleep over these books.

We’ll always have summer started off with Belly and Jeremiah dating, they’ve been dating for awhile, for two years, ever since Conrad told Jeremiah to date Belly. Belly finds out a secret that Jere has been keeping and they have a huge fight. Since they were destined to be together, since her and Jeremiah, Conrad and Steven (Belly’s sister) have hung out since birth practically it was only right for Jeremiah to ask Belly to marry him. They were in love after all.

I was actually really very disappointed in myself, for I have this annoying habit that inhabits me to read the last page or two of a book before I start reading. My conscious told me not to peek at the ending. So I only skimmed over the last sentence, and wouldn’t you know it, the spoiler was the last sentence. So even though I knew what the outcome was I still was on edge while reading it.

Not only did I want to slap at Jeremiah for being such a jerk at times but I also wanted to slap Conrad for not manning up and saying how he really felt to Belly. I don’t want to say anymore because I don’t want to spoil it for everyone. But let me just say that you will not read this trilogy with a dry eye.

Although even before I read the spoiler at the end. I kind of had a feeling that the book was going to end like it did. I just wish this wouldn’t be the last book. In fact I demand another book! Although it wouldn’t have the emotional love triangle I would still love any book that had Belly and Conrad in it. I fell in love with Conrad with Belly.

I can’t help but compare Conrad to Jace from the mortal instruments. In a way there both very similar, Although Conrad doesn’t have that charming witty sarcastic personality like Jace does. But anyways I have ranted enough.

I just wanted to say that everyone who doesn’t like this series has no heart. Just kidding, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I do recommend this to everyone. Even if some people think these books are just a tad bit cheesy :D

City of Glass

City of Glass
Author: Cassandra Clare
pages: 541
publication date: March 24 2009

Summary:
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Times bestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.

Review:
City of Glass is my favorite book in the series by far. Cassandra Clare is an incredibly talented author.

City of Glass was supposed to be the last book in the Mortal instruments trilogy, but now she has decided to expand the series and we can now enjoy more time with Jace and Clary.

City of glass is such an action packed suspenseful book. The plot takes place in Idris, which sounds really beautiful. It’s a city for shadowhunters, sounds wonderful.

Although it took three books for Clary’s mother to wake up and finally prove that Jace and Clary were not brother and sister. I mean the signs were all there that they were NOT siblings. Geesh, they can freely kiss and embrace each other now. Not like it stopped them before.

There wasn’t just romance between Jace and Clary, we also had Magnus and Alec, who let me tell you, is my favorite couple. There so cute together, even though whenever I picture Magnus I picture him as a bald old man in a robe. I don’t know why but it’s weird when I read about Magnus and Alec sometimes.

Then there was Simon and him getting attention from Isabella and Maia, which I was kind of disappointed when Simon gave Clary up, I mean I know Clary was never going to love Simon, at least not in that way but I kind of like the love triangle between them.

I don’t think Cassandra has put as much detail into city of glass, sure we know about what the characters look like but Idris really wasn’t explained in detail. I can’t picture the place at all. That to me is a big disappointment to me when I can’t picture in my mind what the place or character looks like. It’s the smallest detail that counts.

Jace was more emotional in this book then he ever was. I think his tough and emotional walls are crumbling down.
I thought the ending ended perfectly. Everything was tied together very nicely, although I would like to know some more things, like how did Valentine kill the inquisitor when he was a projection. Maybe the answer will be in the next book.

I have bought City of Fallen Angels and I can’t wait to read it, but yet at the same time I have no idea what’s going to happen in the next following books.

Valentine is dead; Jace is with Clary, What’s going to happen next.

The last Little Blue Envelope

The Last Little Blue Envelope
Author: Maureen Johnson
pages: 280
Publication date:April 26 2011

Summary:

Ginny Blackstone thought that the biggest adventure of her life was behind her. She spent last summer traveling around Europe, following the tasks her aunt Peg laid out in a series of letters before she died. When someone stole Ginny's backpack—and the last little blue envelope inside—she resigned herself to never knowing how it was supposed to end.

Months later, a mysterious boy contacts Ginny from London, saying he's found her bag. Finally, Ginny can finish what she started. But instead of ending her journey, the last letter starts a new adventure—one filled with old friends, new loves, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Ginny finds she must hold on to her wits . . . and her heart. This time, there are no instructions.

Review:
I absolutely loved “The last little blue envelope”; it was 100 times better than 13 little blue envelopes.

In the 13 little blue envelopes Ginny gets 13 envelopes from her dead aunt giving her a list of instructions to do in each envelope, while going through each envelope she would travel to different places, while she was on the 12 envelope her backpack got stolen and she never got to see what was in the 13th and last envelope.

In “The last little blue envelope” she gets an email from someone named Oliver saying he has the last envelope. Ginny travels to London and meets him at a café where he tells her the deal, he won’t show her the envelope but he says it involves getting a piece of art and selling it. He makes a proposition telling her that he wants 50% of the sales. She reluctantly agrees, he’s blackmailing her how can she not go along with it?

She finds Keith her former crush/maybe boyfriend and to her surprise he already has a girlfriend that he didn’t tell her about. Somewhere along the line she tells Keith about Oliver and the last envelope and he says that he wants to drive to Paris and wherever else she needs to go. Keith’s girlfriend also ended up coming with and all four of them hopped into Keith’s small car and drove to Paris.

There they follow the instructions in the envelope ending up in Ireland and getting stranded because the car broke down and can’t be fixed. With the help of all four of them they get the art that they need and trudge back to London to sell it.

“The last little blue envelope” is one big adventure and who can’t help but wonder what’s up with mysterious Oliver. The love triangle in this book is somewhat predictable but I couldn’t get enough of it.

I fell in love with Oliver and his long coat ;) I did think he was very weird at first, he was so weird and I didn’t trust them, he was practically blackmailing Ginny, if I were Oliver I would have punched Keith not even half way through the book. He was such a jerk.

I recommend this book to all those who fell in love with 13 little blue envelopes, and even if you didn’t like it I can promise you, you will love the second one.

City of Ashes

City of Ashes
Author:Cassandra Clare
Pages: 453
publication date:March 25 2008

Summary:
Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Review:
Each book in the mortal instrument series gets better and better as I read them.
City of Ashes is the second book in the mortal instruments series and boy was it action packed.

We got Valentine and his army of demons ready to kill the shadowhunter, we got Jace, the boy who thinks he’s invincible, and then there’s Clary the stubborn red haired girl that does whatever she wants.

I do have to admit Clary does annoy me just a tiny bit, when someone tells her to stay put or not interfere she just goes right ahead and does what she wants. Not caring if it puts others in danger or not. I’m not saying this is always a bad thing. In some cases Clary has helped save people from danger on her stubborn impulses but it does get quite a bit annoying at times when she doesn’t listen.

The second book was much more emotional for Clary, Her best friend was kidnapped by her own father (Valentine) and taken to kill for his blood, and Jace is struggling with his emotions as he deals with the emotional balance with his “Father”.

I noticed that Jace wasn’t Jace in City of Ashes, he wasn’t as sarcastic and fun loving as he usually is, he turned into a brooding, take pity on me, Jace. I still love Jace but really?

The relationship between Clary and Jace get even deeper, there’s more at stake, and there feelings deepen. There love is forbidden, who doesn’t love forbidden love.

Clary has gotten stronger as a shadowhunter and character as the book advanced, no longer was she the scared girl who didn’t know what to do. She found out her and her brothers have powers that no one can even believe. In the big battle (shadowhunters against Demons) Clary created a rune to destroy the whole ship.

Valentine is evil yes, he still has emotions though, Valentine can even fight his own battles, he gets his demon army to do it while he tries to kill his own family, and turn Jace against them. What annoyed me was that Jace thinks he’s actually Valentines son. There are so many hints in the book, and yet nobody figures it out. Come one people, your shadowhunters.
Thanks for letting me rant in this review. I do love the book and it definitely deserves all of the wonderful reviews it’s getting. I love this series.

The Implosion of Aggie Winchester

Title:The Implosion of Aggie Winchester
Author: Lara Zielin
Pages: 278
publication date: August 4 2011

Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Aggie Winchester couldn't care less about who's elected prom queen–even if it's her pregnant Goth-girl best friend, Sylvia Ness. Aggie's got bigger things to worry about, like whether or not her ex-boyfriend wants to get back together and whether her mom will survive cancer.

But like it or not, Aggie soon finds herself in the middle of an unfolding prom scandal, largely because her mom, who is the school's principal, is rumored to have burned prom ballots so Sylvia won’t be elected queen. Aggie's own investigation makes her wonder if the election could be dirty on both sides.

Review:
I am very glad I could read this on an ARC tour. I absolutely loved it. It was a brilliant and dramatic read that’s for sure.

Aggie’s mom is the principal at her school, which makes her life a living hell. When they were younger she used to be friend Tiffany, the popular cheerleader, then something happened and she became an instant leper. Tiffany made sure that Aggie didn’t have any friends at all. That’s how Aggie became friends with Sylvia. Sylvia is the school Goth, been best friends ever since, that us until Sylvie announces that she’s pregnant.
After that everything spirals out of control.

Sylvie gets elected to become prom Queen as a joke, after that the whole school blows up. Rumors are flying, friendships are tested, relationships are coming and going and no one knows what to believe.

Half the school is voting for Sylvie while the other half is against it because she’s pregnant. Neil made me very mad; I hate those types of guys who think they can just use girls like that and just dispose of them after their bored of them. Pregnant or not pregnant I just wanted to punch Sylvia, she made me so mad, and she was such a jerk to Aggie.

I really like the different names in the book like “Aggie” and “Fritz”. I started this book and and 2 hours later I realized I had finished the book. It was a book with a touch of reality that was great from start to finish.

Shine

Shine
author: Lauren Myracle
pages:350
publication date:May 1 2011

Summary:
When her best guy friend falls victim to a vicious hate crime, sixteen-year-old Cat sets out to discover who in her small town did it. Richly atmospheric, this daring mystery mines the secrets of a tightly knit Southern community and examines the strength of will it takes to go against everyone you know in the name of justice.

Against a backdrop of poverty, clannishness, drugs, and intolerance, Myracle has crafted a harrowing coming-of-age tale couched in a deeply intelligent mystery. Smart, fearless, and compassionate, this is an unforgettable work from a beloved author.

Review:
While starting this I honestly didn’t think I would like Shine at all. I read a lot of Lauren Myracle books before and loved them, but this one seemed to be really different from her usual writing. But I do get have to say that this book was really good. It was really well written.

This book revolves around Patrick’s beating. Patrick was beaten with a baseball bat and tied to a gas pump where someone shoved a gas nozzle down his throat, all because Patrick was gay. Thankfully someone came when they did and found Patrick clinging onto death. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Cat used to be Patrick’s best friend, they would do everything together, and they would do everything together. But Cat pushed Patrick away a couple of years ago and they never talked again. Now Cat wants to solve the mystery of who would do such a thing.

She tried asking people questions but no one knew anything. Not even her brother would tell her anything. She knew her brother and his group of friends, including Patrick hung out the night of his beating. Every time she got a lead it would go nowhere, she then starts to put the puzzle pieces together.

She didn’t want to believe it at first; she didn’t want to believe that the person who beat Patrick was someone she actually knew.

Although the beginning of the book was a little bit slow, the pace picked up and I was hooked. I like reading mystery books and trying to figure out who did it before anyone actually figured it out. I actually did think it was him, earlier clues gave me hints. But I was still as surprised as Cat was. Near the end I was sitting on the end of my seat wanting to help Cat, I felt helpless that I couldn’t even help her. And then I remembered it was only a book.

I definitely recommend reading this book, and who can resist that beautiful cover!

Between here and forever

Between Here and Forever
Author:Elizabeth Scott
Pages:256
publication date:May 24 2011

Summary:
Abby accepted that she can’t measure up to her beautiful, magnetic sister Tess a long time ago, and knows exactly what she is: Second best. Invisible.

Until the accident.

Now Tess is in a coma, and Abby’s life is on hold. It may have been hard living with Tess, but it's nothing compared to living without her.

She's got a plan to bring Tess

review:
I love Elizabeth Scott’s writing, but I felt like this was one of best book. I’m not saying I didn’t like it. I just didn’t feel like it was her best.
Abby has always felt like nothing, she felt like a shadow to her sister, someone everyone knew she was there but nobody really looked at her. Now her sister Tess is in a coma and its tearing her family apart. They spend all day at the hospital just waiting for some kind of sign that Tess will wake up, but nothing happens. For months they have waiting and nothing has happened.
Tess has always been the star, she always had a boyfriend, she always had a bunch of friends around all the time, she was perfect and popular and Abby felt like nothing.
While Abby was coming to the hospital she noticed a boy there, the most beautiful boy she has ever seen, you could tell that everyone was attracted to his beauty, even the nurses, they would all flock around him and flirt, but he never noticed.
Later she found out his name was Eli and she immediately had an idea, when she was in the room with Eli earlier she could have sworn she saw her sisters eye move. So she gave a proposition to Eli, she wanted him to come into her sister’s room and talk to her, then when she heard this boy’s voice she would wake up for him.
Abby kept trying; Eli would always be there, trying to talk to Tess, even though he didn’t want to.
As the book went on Abby learned some secrets about Tess that she didn’t know before, maybe she wasn’t as perfect as she thought.
Ok, here are my thoughts on the book, Abby annoyed me, she thought that Eli was doing this for Tess, that Eli would think Tess was so beautiful like everyone else thought she was, when actually Eli didn’t care, but Abby kept pushing it. It was really annoying that Abby kept thinking that she was nothing. That no one would ever like her, that she was an ugly duckling she was a very insecure for a seventeen year old.

I did love the romance in this book; I just wished Abby would stop pitying herself for one moment to realize that Eli cares about her and not her sister. I liked how not even Eli was perfect her had flaws and he hated them to, but Abby saw around his flaws, just like Eli did to her.  I’m glad Eli didn’t just leave Abby.
Between here and forever is about self discovery, even if it did take forever for Abby to discover herself and not think badly upon herself. And I know a lot of girls are conflicted and do feel the same way Abby did. There are some girls, who think there so ugly, that no one would want them or love them, and they may look at themselves and criticize themselves, myself included, sometimes we just have to get past the hatred for ourselves and know that someone will love us, flaws and all. Cheesy I know but it’s true.

City of Bones

City of Bones
Author: Cassandra Clare
pages:485
publication date:March 27 2007

Summary:
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Reviews:
City of Bones is a book worth praising over. Cassandra Clare’s writing has been read by thousands and everyone can’t get enough, the mortal Instruments series is my top favorite series. When I found out that the mortal instrument wasn’t a trilogy anymore and that she was going to make a new one I was jumping up and down with happiness. I bought City of Fallen Angels and had to re-read the first three books in the mortal instruments series so I could remember all that happened.
Clary, the main character in the series is living a normal life with her mom, when her life changes forever. Clary and Simon (Clary’s best friend since birth) go to a club, there Clary sees three shadowhunters kill a demon, the only problem she isn’t supposed to see them, there glamoured. When she gets home she finds out that her mom is gone, possible dead and that her house is wrecked and while she was in her apartment a demon tried to kill her.
Clary then meets Jace and he takes her to the institute. The institute is where a bunch of shadowhunters live, some shadowhunters come and go but the lightwoods and Jace there adopted son lives there permanently.
There Clary learns that she is also a shadowhunter and her mom was kidnapped by her oh so evil father Valentine.
A big spoiler alert up next, which I’m pretty sure everyone already knows about. Since Clary and Jace fell in love with each and then found out they were brother and sister. Although the whole brother and sister thing was pretty predictable. It was very gross when even though  they knew that they were brother and sister, they still desired to kiss and love each other in a non brother and sister way.
The city of Bones basically is a lot of death and destruction and adventure to try to get her mom back. Clary also learns some surprising stuff about Luke, her “Uncle”, in which has been keeping secrets from Clary.
Sorry for the bad summarization, it’s really hard to summarize such a big awesome book. Especially without giving away to much of the book and going into a lot of detail.
To summarize everything, I loved Jace’s character, full of sarcasm and hurt.  And then there’s the whole thing with Clary and Jace being in love and brother and sister. Kind of creepy but it makes the book interesting.
I have to say though; since I re-read this book I don’t think I liked is as much as when I read it the first time. I still loved it but its only 4 stars for me.

Demonglass

Demonglass
Author:Rachel Hawkins
Pages:359
publication date:March 1 2011

Summary:
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

Review:
Demonglass starts off right where Hex hall ended. The problem for me was that I read Hex Hall last year and I don’t remember half the plot, nor do I remember how it ended. Once I started reading Demonglass certain parts came back to me though.
I loved how most of the book was set in England. I want to go to England really bad so reading books with the setting from England makes me want to go there that much more.
Sophie’s powerful father suddenly makes an appearance, for the first time 16 years, I would just like to say that I loved the thought of trying to imagine Sophie’s father with a British accent. It’s very hard to imagine what he looks like and then to top it all off you have to imagine the totally awesome accent. He then makes Sophie come to England with him, and Sophie would only come on one condition. Jenna must come with. Jenna is Sophie’s vampire friend. Sophie, Jenna, Cal and her father all set off for England.
I love cal, I wish that Sophie would get her head out of the clouds and stop thinking about Archer. I realize Sophie loves Archer but Cal is right there and she doesn’t even see the signs that are right in front of her. Cal is in love with Sophie.
So they find themselves at a beautiful British mansion. There they meet Daisy and Nick; both of them are demons to. Sophie was very confused. She thought her and her dad were the only demons existed. Daisy and Nick are made demons, the spell that turns demons has been lost ages ago. That’s why curiosity sparks in Sophie, how could these to demons be made when the spell has been missing?
Demonglass has a lot of action, battles and more of Archer. I realize the whole forbidden love/love triangle aspect of the story, which has become more popular in YA lately, but since she has been forced not to spend time with Archer (the enemy, a demon hunter) I don’t understand why she doesn’t listen. And the thing where she’s so insecure, and thinks that having powers will kill someone, she reminds me of how someone that’s 12 should act. Not a 16 year old.
I would just like to clarify that I am team Cal, and they ended with the unfortunate cliffhanger at the end, which made me so mad, why can’t the next book be out already!
If you’re looking for a fast paced paranormal book with love triangles and action packed, make sure to pick up a copy of Hex Hall and Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins.
